Citizenship Through Adoption

Canadian Citizenship is considered as one of the most coveted citizenships in the world. Applicants can apply for Visa in the Citizenship through adoption category, provided they have Canadian parents to get citizenship, receive a Canadian passport, and be given the benefits for an eligible Canadian citizen. The applicant, who is an adopted child of Canadian parents, has to be adopted outside Canada, to fit in this category. 

Citizenship Through Adoption Basic Requirements

For getting an approval in this category, the applicant should have been adopted outside Canada on or after January 1st, 1947. The applicant should have at least one parent who holds Canadian citizenship while the adoption takes place; the parent should also be able to establish the facts that, the adoption was for the benefit (of the adopted child), that the adoption resulted into a genuine parent-child relationship, and that the adoption complied with all laws for the country of nationality of the adoptee at the time of the adoption as well as Canada. Additionally visa requirements will also apply.

Once approved, the applicant is allowed to enjoy the rights and freedoms as equal to a Canadian resident. This includes aboriginal people’s rights, equality rights, legal rights, mobility rights, freedom of thought, religion, and speech as well as the right to peaceful assembly. The applicants is also expected to comply with Canada’s laws, help others in the community, care for and protect country’s heritage and environment, and eliminate discrimination and injustice. Among the many privileges, the applicant also enjoys the right to vote in Canada.
